Sciatica relief…..

Sciatica Relief & Yoga

Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve becomes irritated or compressed, sometimes causing pain, tingling, or discomfort that travels from the lower back or buttock through the hip and down the leg.

While yoga isn’t a cure for every cause of sciatica, gentle, mindful movement may help reduce muscular tension, improve mobility, and support more comfortable movement.

Figure Four Stretch — Opens the hips and gently stretches the glutes and piriformis.

Seated Twist — Encourages gentle spinal movement while stretching the hips and lower back. Never force the twist.

Wind-Removing Pose / Knee-to-Chest — Gently stretches the glutes and lower back and may help ease tension through the hips.

Supine Hamstring Stretch — Lengthens the back of the leg without requiring deep bending. Use a strap or towel for support.

Why Can Gentle Movement Help?

The sciatic nerve travels from the lower spine through the hips and buttocks and down each leg. Gentle yoga may encourage mobility, flexibility, relaxation, and reduced muscular tension in surrounding areas.

But remember: more stretching is not always better with sciatica. Different causes of sciatic pain may respond differently to movement.

Move slowly. Breathe deeply. Listen to your body. Never push through sharp, burning, electrical, or increasing nerve pain.

Consistency is more important than intensity. Your practice doesn't have to be deep or dramatic to be meaningful.

Persistent, severe, or worsening symptoms—especially significant weakness, numbness, or bowel/bladder changes—should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

Breathe. Move gently. Listen closely.

Sometimes caring for your body isn't about pushing harder. It's about creating enough space to hear what it needs.
