Let’s talk Sphinx Pose….

✨ LET’S TALK SPHINX POSE! ✨

Sphinx Pose may look simple, but sometimes the quieter poses have a lot to offer. 💜

Sphinx Pose (Salamba Bhujangasana) is a gentle backbend practiced on the belly with the forearms supporting the upper body. It can be a beautiful way to explore spinal extension without going into a deeper backbend.

🌿 WHY PRACTICE SPHINX? ✨ Gently encourages spinal mobility ✨ Opens the chest and front of the body ✨ Can help counter long periods of sitting or forward-rounded posture ✨ Encourages awareness of the back body ✨ Offers a gentler alternative to deeper backbends such as Cobra or Upward-Facing Dog

HOW TO PRACTICE: Lie on your belly and place your forearms on the mat, with your elbows underneath or slightly in front of your shoulders. Gently press through your forearms, lengthen through your spine, and lift your chest without forcing the lower back.

And remember—higher is NOT better! Your body decides how much backbend is appropriate today. 🙌

⚠️ CONTRAINDICATIONS & MODIFICATIONS: Use caution or seek appropriate guidance if you have a current back or spinal injury, recent abdominal or spinal surgery, significant shoulder or elbow problems, or a condition for which spinal extension has been restricted. During pregnancy, lying on the abdomen may become uncomfortable or inappropriate as pregnancy progresses, so choose a suitable alternative.

If you feel sharp pain, numbness, tingling, or uncomfortable compression in your lower back, come out of the pose.

💜 Move gently. Breathe. Listen.

Yoga isn't about forcing your body into the deepest version of a pose. It's about discovering the version that works for YOUR body.
